Our orthotic is an
ENGINEERED, CUSTOM-FIT orthotic. Many years of research have gone
into designing each particular angle in the device, and each angle
relates to the next. The foot is treated as a whole and the body as
a natural extension of the shock absorption and alignment properties
of the properly functioning foot. Our goal is to assess the bone
structure of the client, and choose the engineered blank that best
fits that foot. Then the blank is custom fit to the client, keeping
in mind that any departure is a departure from the ideal.
The
deep heel cup with higher rim and side-wall (thinnest possible
construction of heel seat, material designed to thin out and flex at
body temperature. By dropping the heel into the cup, the heel fat
pad is directed under the point of the talus for more cushioning.
The surrounding rim and arch
support directly in front of the heel cup prevent the full force of
heel strike on talus. (Anytime you raise the heel, you increase heel
strike impact AND dump weight onto the front of the foot.) Reducing
heel impact reduces the amount of ground force (shock) being sent up
the frame. 70% of back pain can be directly related to heel impact.
-
The medium arch height is ideal for the bone
structure matching that particular blank. Again, our goal is to
have the foot trained to fit the orthotic, not to make the
orthotic match the biomechanical problems of the imperfect foot.
-
The metatarsal lift is one of the most effective on the market.
Not only is it wide enough to support the whole metatarsal arch,
but it initiates far under the metatarsal bones and gently but
firmly fans towards the front. Again, the height is the ideal for
that particular bone structure. Too low does not give enough
support to the plantar fascia ligaments or the metatarsal heads,
too high sets the client back on the heel, increasing heel impact
and diminishing control of pronation and supination.
-
The properly designed sides of the PRO-Active
orthotic control pronation and supination up to 24%.
-
The deep heel cup and sidewall (complete with cup
for base of the 5th metatarsal) provide the
requirements for the pedorthic rule “Control the heel and you
control the limb” ie. Alignment of the ankle, knee and hip.
-
The orthotic is
flat on the bottom thereby encouraging the foot to sit flat, in a
natural position, and to roll straight through the orthotic,
climbing up the arch and metatarsal lift during heel strike to
midstance, then pushing off the front of the metatarsal lift at
toe off creating a “roll” instead of “slap” to the client’s gait
and exercising and strengthening the ligaments.
We have created a concrete world and as a society are paying the
price in chronic pain. Rarely do we walk over natural uneven
surfaces that would promote strength and flexibility in our feet and
legs. The PRO-Active orthotic provides us with that natural surface
and we can ALL benefit from that. |
